Proverbs 28:1 – “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
To be bold means to be willing to take risks and act innovatively. Other words for boldness are confidence or courage. Note in this verse, the boldness is attributed to a specific set of people; those who are righteous. We know that our righteousness comes from Jesus and so we are taking on this image of righteousness from one who is greater than us.
This means that we don’t become bold on our own accord or through our own doing, rather, we lean into the power of the righteousness of Christ and take on His image.
Our children will come across situations that may seem scary and difficult to take on, but our prayers for them is that when they are faced with difficult situations, that they will remember they are bold through Christ and may that knowledge cause them to be courageous and stand tall with confidence.
