A Pure Heart That will See God

Matthew 5:8
”Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God”

What does it mean to be pure in heart? – The heart is crucial to Jesus. What we are in the private cubicles of our lives is what Jesus cares about the most. This is the reason Jesus came into the world – to purify our sinful hearts. Proverbs 4:23 says ‘above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it’. A pure heart is a heart that has nothing to do with falsehood, remains truthful even in turbulent times and is totally free from deceit. A pure heart aims to align itself with the truth of the word God and magnify God in everything it seeks out to do.

Jesus teaches us in this beatitude that only those who have a pure heart will see God. Psalm 24:3-4 says thus: Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false, and does not swear deceitfully’. To see God is to be admitted and be comforted in his presence (Psalm 16:11), to boldly enter his throne room (Hebrews. 4:16) and to experience a greater filling of joy which cannot be humanly attained (John 7:38)

God is the one who purifies the heart, and the instrument with which he cleans it is faith. We must come to God by faith to draw near to Him. Proverbs 3:5 says ‘therefore trust in the Lord with all your heart’. Heed this one thing and you will see God.
