A Peacemaking Spirit

Matthew 5:9
”Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

How can we live as Peacemakers? – Living as a peacemaker is following the example of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is a peace-loving, and a peace-making God. He is called the Prince of Peace. Jesus offers this peace to his followers in John 14:27 when he said “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

We show ourselves to be peacemakers when we seek to make peace in our families, our workplaces, our community and the world. It is by the Spirit of God which is the Spirit of peace that we are made God’s children; so if we are not peacemakers, then we don’t have God’s Spirit in us.

It is often easier to ignore conflict or subdue it by pretending it doesn’t exist, however God expects more from His children. He expects his children to reflect the divine character of peace in their actions. God is a God of peace and he has promised that as we try to resolve conflict, we will have the honour of being identified as the children of God.
